Changing the World Through Education, One Child at a Time
Tanzania is a land of amazing wildlife and incredible beauty. The landscape has something for everyone. There are the endless plains of the Serengeti, pristine beaches of the coastal islands and lush mountain slopes. The people are as diverse as the landscape. With over 100 tribes, including the famous Bushman, Maasai and Chagga, it makes for an amazing array of cultures, languages and customs.
Within the country, one thing you will find universal is amazing faith, generosity and joy amid the endless poverty. The average daily income in Tanzania is less than a dollar a day leaving everything from healthcare, education, safe drinking water and electricity as luxuries that are simply not obtainable. In turn, the need is great. The good news is that while many African countries suffer political unrest and war, Tanzania has had a stable democracy since gaining
independence in 1961. This has allowed for privatization and foreign investments to help grow this developing country and has enabled aid agencies to effectively reach their targeted goals.
Children of Tanzania believes that these factors create an environment ready for growth and that the cycle of poverty can be broken through education. Education provides knowledge vital to coping with everyday life and opens opportunities. Because we believe that education can lift a person out of the poverty, we focus on helping children access and stay within the educational system. We do this by providing classrooms, lunch programs, school kitchens and bathrooms, teacher houses, books, water wells and rain harvesting tanks, emergency food aid, government mandated school uniforms, school supplies, student desks and tuition sponsorship.
